Service Status - the internal demolition - has been completed

In 1965 her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth made a Royal and Official visit to Ethiopia including a trip to the historical places Axum. It was there that her cousin the Duke of Gloucester visited his majesty on his jubilee and laid a ceremonial stone for construction of the new church. This church was built on the instructions of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie 1st, who also informed her Majesty of the Church name, St Mary of Zion (Tsion).

In 1974 the first church established here in London UK, was to take the name St Mary of Zion Ethiopian Orthodox Church, keeping with the theme ‘the first church’ in Ethiopia.

This is why it gives me Immense Joy to announce to the membership and friends, the launch of St Mary of Zion London UK Renovation Appeal. It is hoped that our online website appeal will spearhead this appeal running alongside our ‘on the ground’ appeal to the general public. So far we have raised an estimated £30, 000.00 on our way to raise a target of £800, 000.00 for the refurbishment of the newly acquired building. The style of the building will be a replica of the one that Her Majesty laid the ceremonial stone for.

Please visit our website TODAY:  www.stmaryofzion.co.uk , click on the tab Church Appeal and then click on the donate button. You can give as little as £5.00.

Part of the new building will be used for Community Projects and Youth Programmes which will benefit many people in the local community.

Our aims are clearly set out to provide a caring and compassionate environment to develop the social, academic potential and spiritual potential for all, raising standard of behaviour by developing respect and responsibility for all.

Once again I would like to thank you all personally for your generous support and donation for the St Mary of Zion EOC London UK Renovation Appeal.
